NEWARK, DE — A Newark man has been charged with multiple felonies after police say he was involved in a vehicular assault and robbery this past week.
The Delaware State Police reported that the incident occurred on December 4, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m. at the Shell gas station located at 380 East Chestnut Hill Road in Newark. According to authorities, a 38-year-old man was walking through the parking lot when a red passenger vehicle allegedly sped toward him and struck him. The suspect then exited the vehicle, reportedly took the victim’s wallet, and fled the scene. Emergency personnel transported the injured man to a local hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries.
After an investigation, detectives from Troop 2 identified the suspect as 31-year-old John Arce, who is said to be a family member of the victim. On December 6, Arce surrendered to law enforcement at Troop 2, where he was taken into custody.
Arce faces several felony charges, including Assault in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and Reckless Endangering in the First Degree. Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a cash bond set at $185,000.
Authorities remind the public that these charges are allegations, and Arce is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
