HARRISBURG, PA — The State Museum of Pennsylvania has unveiled its lineup of special holiday programs for December, offering visitors a variety of festive attractions, educational experiences, and family-friendly activities. From dazzling Planetarium shows to New Year’s celebrations and unique shopping opportunities, the museum promises an engaging season for all.
Explore Holiday Traditions with Season of Light
The museum’s Planetarium will showcase Season of Light, an immersive program exploring the history of winter holiday customs involving light, such as the Yule log, Hanukkah menorah, and Christmas tree lights. Showtimes run as follows:
- December 11–15 at 2 PM daily
- December 18–21 at 12 PM and 2 PM
- December 21–22 at 2 PM and 3 PM
Tickets are $4 per person in addition to general admission, with free access for museum affiliate members. They must be purchased at least 10 minutes before showtime.
Museum Store Winter Sale
Shoppers can take advantage of the Museum Store’s Winter Sale on December 21 and 22, with 20% off a wide selection of gifts. The store operates Wednesday to Saturday, 10 AM–4:30 PM, and Sunday, 12 PM–4:30 PM.
Noon Year’s Celebration Welcomes 2025
Families can ring in the New Year with the Noon Year’s Celebration on Saturday, December 28, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. Included in general admission, the festivities feature crafts, trivia, a dance party, and a firefly drop at noon. Additional activities include showings of Exploration Sky in the Planetarium, with tickets available for $4 per person, and playtime in the Curiosity Connection area, offered on a limited, first-come basis.
Last Chance to See the Fallingwater Exhibit
Visitors have until January 5, 2025, to view Seeing Fallingwater – Celebrating Pennsylvania’s Architectural Masterpiece, an exhibit showcasing Paul Bonfilio’s model of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic design. The exhibit, on loan from the Museum of Modern Art, highlights Pennsylvania’s architectural heritage.
Holiday Closures
The museum will be closed on December 25, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
