Inmate Found Deceased at SCI Albion

ALBION, PA — Authorities are investigating the death of Nicholas Martin, a 34-year-old inmate at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion, who was discovered unresponsive in his cell on the evening of December 1. Prison staff administered life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Martin was pronounced dead at 8:47 p.m.

Martin was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, stemming from a conviction in Elk County. He had been incarcerated at SCI Albion since February 27, 2024.

The Pennsylvania State Police have been notified and are conducting a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Martin’s death, in accordance with state policy. The Erie County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
