HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) has announced the appointment of Corey Shannon as the new manager of Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County. Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn praised Shannon’s qualifications, noting his “thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and commitment to getting the job done,” and expressed confidence in his leadership as the park prepares for the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Shannon assumed his role in May, overseeing the 500-acre site, which holds deep historical significance as the location of George Washington’s daring crossing of the Delaware River during the American Revolution. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, the park attracts visitors with its rich historical and recreational offerings.
The park is divided into Upper and Lower Sections, featuring historic buildings, walking paths, picnic areas, and educational programming focused on history and the environment. It also hosts special events and re-enactments. Iconic landmarks include the 125-foot Bowman’s Hill Tower, offering panoramic views of the Delaware River Valley, and the adjoining Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve.
“Washington Crossing is a special place with so much to offer, and I am eager to continue building on the great things that are happening at the park and in the surrounding community,” Shannon stated, expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead the park and collaborate with its dedicated staff and volunteers.
A native of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Shannon holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in sport and recreation administration from Temple University. He joined DCNR in 2021 as a park manager trainee, gaining experience across multiple Pennsylvania state parks, including Neshaminy, Ridley Creek, and Nockamixon.
Shannon brings not only his professional expertise but also a personal connection to the outdoors, inspired by time spent with his family during the pandemic. His leadership is expected to guide Washington Crossing Historic Park as it continues to serve as a vital destination for historical preservation, education, and recreation.
