Nighttime Repairs to Impact I-76 Traffic in Philadelphia

Travel Restrictions

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced nighttime paving and repair operations on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) as part of a $37.9 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate. The work includes updates to the road itself, on-and-off ramps, and over 20 bridges.

Two critical travel restrictions have been scheduled:

  • On Monday, December 9, westbound I-76 will be closed and detoured from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM near U.S. 1 South (City Avenue/Exit 339). Motorists will be directed to use the first City Avenue exit to continue westbound.
  • On Friday, December 13, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, a lane closure will occur on westbound I-76 between Passyunk Avenue and South Street for bridge deck repairs.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time while traveling through these areas, as delays and backups are expected. All construction activities are dependent on weather conditions.
