PHILADELPHIA, PA — Ridge Avenue will once again transform into a festive winter wonderland as Roxborough presents its annual “Happy Holidays from ROX” celebration. This cherished two-day event, organized by the Roxborough Development Corporation, will take place on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7, and promises to bring together neighbors, families, and visitors for a memorable start to the holiday season.
The celebration begins on Friday, December 6, from 5 PM to 8 PM, with the highly anticipated Roxborough Tree Lighting Ceremony at Pocket Park, located at 6170 Ridge Avenue. Colleen and Philip D’Agostino, local business owners and recipients of the 2024 Roots of Roxborough Award, will lead the ceremonial lighting of three holiday trees. Guests can partake in live music performances and seasonal offerings from local favorite New Ridge Brewing Co., while children enjoy creative ornament-making for the community’s special “wishing trees.”
Complementing the festivities are two holiday pop-up markets—an outdoor market at Pocket Park and an indoor market at Roxy Hall Island Cuisine (6139 Ridge Avenue). Attendees can shop for handcrafted goods, holiday décor, and unique gifts while soaking in the cheerful atmosphere. Art enthusiasts will delight in “Art on the Ridge,” a special six-week pop-up gallery featuring works by local artisans at 6133 Ridge Avenue. Visitors can explore paintings, jewelry, and handcrafted art pieces, with an opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind creations.
Festive Fun Continues on Saturday
The holiday merriment resumes on Saturday, December 7, from 12 PM to 6 PM, as festivities expand across Ridge Avenue. Families can savor toasty treats at the make-your-own s’mores bar and enjoy classic holiday carols performed by City Light Church Choir. Live music, seasonal beverages, and delectable bites will flow throughout the day as guests immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.
Santa Claus will make his grand entrance aboard Engine 39 at 3 PM, delighting children as he joins the crowd for festive photos. Popular characters like Elsa from Frozen and Flyleaf the Book Fairy will also be on hand earlier in the afternoon to create magical moments for the youngest celebrants.
Meanwhile, holiday markets at both the indoor and outdoor venues will continue to offer an extraordinary selection of gifts, stocking stuffers, and artisan goods. Visitors can also participate in “Sip and Shop” at Art on the Ridge, where they can enjoy tastings from Top Dog Cocktails while discovering unique art and crafts.
Art on the Ridge Enhances the Holiday Experience
A standout feature of this year’s celebration is the Art on the Ridge gallery, which runs through December 28, showcasing local talent from Northwest Philadelphia. Organized in partnership with the Manayunk Roxborough Art Center, this gallery not only displays impressive artwork but also activates a vacant storefront, bringing new energy and foot traffic to Ridge Avenue’s bustling corridor.
This initiative reflects the Roxborough Development Corporation’s broader vision for community engagement and growth, as it supports local artists while enhancing the area’s cultural vibrancy. The gallery’s extensive schedule offers ample opportunity for visitors to explore its offerings during the holiday season.
A Celebration Rooted in Community
“Happy Holidays from ROX” highlights Roxborough’s unique charm and collaborative spirit. From the support of Ridge Avenue businesses to the participation of local artists and performers, the event embodies the neighborhood’s dedication to fostering community ties and spreading joy.
Admission to all activities is free, with food, beverages, and market purchases available for pay-as-you-go. With something to delight every age and interest, this two-day celebration invites everyone to revel in the festive season and experience the warmth of Roxborough’s holiday tradition.
Mark your calendars for “Happy Holidays from ROX” and immerse yourself in a weekend filled with lights, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
