WEST CHESTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has confirmed the continuation of roadway construction next week on a project designed to enhance safety and traffic flow along the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor. This expansive initiative spans areas within West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township, Chester County.
From Monday, December 2, through Friday, December 6, periodic lane closures are scheduled between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Business U.S. 322, affecting the stretch between Barnard Street and Rosedale Avenue. Flagging operations will take place to guide motorists through the work zones, though PennDOT advises drivers to anticipate delays and allocate extra travel time when navigating the impacted area. All scheduled activities depend on favorable weather conditions.
The multi-faceted project encompasses critical updates to traffic infrastructure and roadway conditions along this busy corridor. Planned improvements include the installation of new traffic signals at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, recovery of signal operations through retroreflective backplates, and modernization of lighting with LED luminaires. Additional safety measures include the addition of pedestrian countdown timers at signalized intersections, curb extensions, and high-visibility crosswalks. To support long-term roadway durability, the plan incorporates extensive drainage enhancements, full-depth pavement restoration, and a final resurfacing of the corridor.
These enhancements are expected to significantly improve safety conditions for pedestrians and drivers while bolstering the efficiency of traffic flow in a high-traffic area.
Marino Corporation of Skippack, Pennsylvania, serves as the general contractor overseeing the $2,619,998 federally funded project. Physical construction is forecasted to reach completion in winter 2026.
