WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police Department has apprehended Nathaniel Harris, aged 48, in relation to a fatal assault that transpired last month. The incident, which occurred on October 20th in the 2100 block of North Market Street, resulted in the serious injury of 60-year-old Edward Wiggins.

Following the assault, Mr. Wiggins was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on October 22nd. Detective Derek Haines from the Criminal Investigations Division, in collaboration with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, undertook a thorough investigation. The inquiry established that the injuries sustained by the victim were directly linked to the assault.

On November 4th, Detective Haines presented the case to the New Castle County Grand Jury, which subsequently returned an indictment against Harris. Law enforcement officials successfully located and arrested Harris on November 19th without incident.

Harris now faces a manslaughter charge and was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11. He is currently held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with bail set at $500,000 cash-only.

It is imperative to note that an indictment or charge is not an assumption of guilt. Nathaniel Harris, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
