DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Chester County Technical College High School (TCHS) recently hosted its annual College Fairs across its Brandywine, Pennock’s Bridge, and Pickering campuses, drawing nearly 70 postsecondary institutions. This event provided a crucial platform for students to engage directly with representatives from a diverse array of universities, community colleges, military programs, and trade schools, including notable participants like Moravian University, the PA Army National Guard, and Delaware County Community College.

The College Fairs aimed to equip TCHS students with comprehensive insights into the academic programs, campus cultures, admission requirements, financial aid options, and extracurricular activities offered by these institutions. This interaction afforded students a broader understanding of the higher education landscape, enabling them to make informed decisions about their post-secondary paths.

Samantha Wiegner, a junior from Avon Grove High School in TCHS Pennock’s Bridge’s Cosmetology program, expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunities the fair presented. “I had great conversations with Delaware County Community College and other schools about combining my passion for cosmetology and dance studies,” she stated. “The college fair helped me explore different paths and connect with three colleges I’m really interested in.”

Similarly, Vladimir Romo, a senior from Avon Grove High School in the Automotive Service Technology program, found the event instrumental in shaping his career aspirations. He remarked on the benefits of discussing his options with the Marines and the Universal Technical Institute. “The college fair helped me map out my future plans. Also, the preparation we received from our instructors helped me feel confident when talking to the college representatives.”

The success of these fairs is significantly bolstered by the proactive involvement of school counselors who guide students through the often complex college selection process. Kiersten Geist, a school counselor at TCHS Pennock’s Bridge, conveyed her commitment to supporting students in their educational journeys. “We love offering students the opportunity to navigate the complex college selection process. Whether they are in 9th grade and just beginning to think about life after high school, or in 12th grade and applying to colleges, the fair provides a chance to expose all students to various options.”

Through these College Fairs, Chester County TCHS continues its effort to prepare students for life beyond high school, fostering an environment that encourages exploration and informed decision-making. As these events become a staple of the TCHS experience, they not only connect students with potential educational paths but also inspire them to envision and pursue their aspirations with clarity and confidence.
