High-Speed Drama: Newark Man’s Arrest Unfolds in Thrilling Pursuit

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police have arrested Savon Roy, a 26-year-old Newark resident, on multiple drug and traffic charges following a police pursuit through Newark on November 13, 2024.

The incident began around 1:45 p.m. when a state trooper patrolling East Chestnut Hill Road identified a gray Ford Fusion displaying a fictitious Delaware temporary tag. Upon verifying the tag’s illegitimacy, the officer attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver reportedly ignored the signal, steering the vehicle into Brookside Plaza Shopping Center before accelerating over a curb, traversing a grassy area, and speeding onto Marrows Road.

The pursuit continued as the vehicle raced onto Kensington Lane, eventually halting at a residence on Korda Drive. At this point, the driver, identified as Savon Roy, fled on foot but was swiftly apprehended by police.

Following his arrest, Roy experienced a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. During a subsequent search, police discovered a clear plastic bag containing remnants of an off-white powder, allegedly concealed and torn open by Roy in an attempt to disperse its contents. Additionally, the search of the Ford revealed several bags of marijuana totaling approximately 61.5 grams.

Further investigation uncovered that Roy had an outstanding arrest warrant from the New Castle County Police Department and several capiases for his arrest.

After being discharged from the hospital, Roy was taken to Troop 2 where he faced several charges. These include felony counts of obstruction of justice and disregarding a police officer’s signal, along with charges for marijuana possession beyond personal use, resisting arrest, reckless driving, operating an unregistered vehicle, and additional traffic violations. Roy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution under a $3,005 secured bond.
