COLLEGEVILLE, PA — The State Correctional Institution at Phoenix faced a grave situation on November 1, 2024, as inmate Shaun Harden, aged 45, was discovered unresponsive in his cell. Harden’s condition prompted an immediate response from prison staff, who administered life-saving measures until medical personnel from the facility arrived. Despite these efforts, Harden was pronounced dead at 6:29 a.m.
Harden had recently entered SCI Phoenix on October 31, 2024, to serve a sentence ranging from 4 to 10 years for Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Child, following a conviction in Greene County. His sudden demise within a day of his arrival has raised concerns, necessitating a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In line with institutional policy, the Pennsylvania State Police have been informed and are tasked with conducting an investigation to uncover the events leading to this incident. Their probe will aim to establish whether any external factors contributed to Harden’s untimely death.
Simultaneously, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has been engaged to perform an autopsy, which will ascertain the official cause of death. The findings from this examination are crucial to understanding whether the death was due to natural causes or involved other elements.
The prison administration has confirmed that Harden’s next of kin has been notified.
