Suspected Gunman Nabbed in Dramatic Wilmington Shooting Investigation

WILMINGTON, DE — In a development regarding an early October shooting incident, Wilmington Police have apprehended Khalir Thomas, 20, on several charges linked to the case. The arrest follows a comprehensive investigation led by the Criminal Investigations Division.

The incident in question occurred on October 2, 2024, when officers from the Uniformed Services Division were dispatched to the 900 block of Vandever Avenue shortly after 1:48 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. Another victim, a 21-year-old male, was also identified as having sustained gunshot injuries and was later reported to be in stable condition after seeking medical attention at a local hospital.

Detective Michael Hayman spearheaded the investigation, which ultimately led to the identification of Thomas as a potential suspect. Following the issuance of arrest warrants, Thomas was located in the 2100 block of Jessup Street on October 26, where he was taken into custody without incident by members of the Uniformed Services Division.

Thomas now faces charges including first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and second-degree conspiracy. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at $122,000 cash-only.

It is crucial to note that the charges against Thomas are currently allegations. As with any legal proceedings, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
