Woman’s Fatal Assault Sparks Major Investigation in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities in Wilmington are investigating a tragic incident following the death of 49-year-old Lisa Fakis, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an alleged assault during a robbery. The event unfolded on the night of October 24, 2024, when police were called to the 200 block of Lombard Street after receiving reports of an unresponsive female at the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Fakis, who was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigations, conducted in collaboration with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, confirmed that Fakis’ death was a direct result of the injuries she sustained in the assault.

In connection with this incident, Wilmington Police apprehended 31-year-old Laverne Sealey. The arrest was executed without incident, and Sealey has been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. Following her arraignment in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, Sealey was remanded to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution with a cash-only bail set at $140,000.

The case is currently under the purview of Detective Brendan Shea from the Criminal Investigations Division. Authorities are working closely with the Delaware Department of Justice to possibly upgrade the charges against Sealey as the investigation progresses.
