LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced significant construction activities set to commence next week on U.S. 422, Sanatoga Road, and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township. This initiative is part of an $83.6 million project aimed at reconstructing and improving approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway, alongside replacing key bridge structures between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.
Starting Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11, construction will necessitate intermittent single lane closures on westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road (Sanatoga Interchange) and Armand Hammer Boulevard from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM for road reconstruction efforts. Similarly, both Sanatoga and Porter Roads will experience lane closures with 15-minute traffic stoppages from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM as bridge demolition takes place between E. High Street and Linfield Road, as well as E. High Street and Sanatoga Station Road, respectively. Additionally, eastbound U.S. 422 will face similar closures from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM between Keim Street and Evergreen Road for reconstruction work.
This extensive project addresses critical infrastructure needs by enhancing the roadway’s horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance, thereby improving travel flow and safety. A notable aspect of the project includes replacing the existing culvert at Sprogels Run and the single-span bridge over Porter Road with a new two-span bridge. Additionally, the bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will be reconstructed and widened to accommodate increased traffic demands.
