Join the Conversation: Learn How I-76 Flex Lane Plans Could Transform Your Daily Commute!

PennDOT

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is extending an invitation to the public to join a live virtual meeting on Thursday, October 10, to discuss the forthcoming project aimed at constructing a third flexible travel lane on the westbound stretch of Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway). This significant infrastructure development will span from U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) to just beyond Belmont Avenue, incorporating areas within Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, and the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County.

The primary objective of this project is to alleviate congestion, minimize crash incidents linked to traffic buildup, and enhance travel time reliability along this heavily trafficked corridor. The proposed flex lane will provide temporary additional capacity during peak traffic periods and will enable dynamic lane management to accommodate emergency operations, adverse weather conditions, and maintenance activities. During non-peak hours, the new lane will function as a shoulder, thus optimizing road space and improving traffic flow.

PennDOT’s upcoming virtual meeting is a part of its comprehensive public outreach strategy, ensuring that community members are well-informed and engaged with the project developments. Scheduled to commence at 6:30 PM on Thursday, October 10, the meeting will be conducted via Microsoft Live Teams. Participants are encouraged to access the meeting link in advance of the start time. The session will include a detailed presentation from PennDOT’s design team, followed by a question and answer segment utilizing the meeting platform’s Q&A feature.

To participate in the virtual meeting, attendees will require internet access and a compatible computer or mobile device. Individuals with specific requirements or those in need of special assistance are advised to contact PennDOT Project Manager Mike Holva at mholva@pa.gov to make necessary arrangements.
