Beginning Monday, September 30, motorists traveling on northbound and southbound I-95 will encounter a single lane closure starting at 9:00 PM. This will escalate to multiple lane closures from 11:00 PM until 5:00 AM the following morning, affecting the stretch between the I-676 (Exit 22) and Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) interchanges. The construction efforts will continue on Tuesday, October 1, and Wednesday, October 2, with double lane closures in effect from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Should weather conditions necessitate adjustments, these closures may extend to Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4, during the same nighttime hours.
PennDOT advises travelers to anticipate delays and allow for additional travel time when navigating these areas due to potential traffic congestion. The planned work is contingent upon favorable weather conditions.
The CAP project is set to significantly improve pedestrian and multimodal access between Center City and the waterfront. Central to the project are two major developments: the creation of a new Park at Penn’s Landing and the construction of a signature bridge at South Street.
