BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a significant closure as part of its ongoing project to enhance U.S. 1 in Bucks County. Beginning Monday, September 9, the left turn lane from westbound Rockhill Drive to the ramp leading to northbound U.S. 1 will be closed for approximately three months. This closure is necessary for the reconstruction and widening of a three-mile section of the highway.
Commuters should prepare for potential delays and are advised to plan additional travel time. During the closure, drivers will be rerouted to southbound Old Lincoln Highway and eastbound Street Road (Route 132) to access northbound U.S. 1. These detour routes aim to manage traffic flow and minimize disruption.
This lane closure is part of the broader U.S. 1/RC2 contract aimed at improving critical infrastructure. The project encompasses not only the expansion of U.S. 1 but also enhancements to the interchanges at Neshaminy, Penndel/Business U.S. 1, and Rockhill Drive. Additionally, the initiative will replace bridges over Rockhill Drive, Neshaminy Creek, and Business U.S. 1/CSX/SEPTA.
PennDOT is urging all motorists to remain patient and cautious while traveling in the vicinity of the construction zone. Completion of this phase is expected by December 15, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to enhance regional transportation infrastructure.
