Suspect Arrested in Armed Robbery at Latino Mex

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — The Southern Chester County Regional Police Department announced that on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:15 AM, officers responded to an armed robbery report at Latino Mex, 1001 W. Baltimore Pike. Upon arrival, the initial officer secured the scene as additional officers and detectives conducted a thorough investigation.

The suspect allegedly displayed a firearm and demanded cash from the store clerk before fleeing on foot. He parked his vehicle nearby but was no longer in the area when officers arrived. Officers preserved video surveillance of the incident and obtained a description of the suspect.

After gathering intelligence, it was determined the suspect was driving a red Chevrolet Trailblazer. At approximately 1:30 PM, an officer from the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department observed and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle matching the description. The suspect, identified as Salvador Lopez-Ortigoza, 52, of Toughkenamon, was apprehended without incident. The firearm he displayed was later determined to be a replica after he admitted to the armed robbery.

Lopez-Ortigoza was transported to Chester County Prison and later had a preliminary arraignment with Judge Seavey. He is held on a $100,000 monetary bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2024, at 9:00 AM with Magisterial District Court 15-4-04, Judge Seavey presiding.

The investigation received assistance from the Kennett Square Borough Police Department, Kennett Township Police Department, and East Marlborough Police Department.

Lopez-Ortigoza faces multiple charges, including robbery with infliction or threat of bodily injury, terroristic threats, possessing instruments of crime, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and recklessly endangering another person.
