PHILADELPHIA, PA — Chris’ Jazz Café, a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s jazz scene, marks its 35th anniversary this September. Renowned for its vibrant performances and exquisite cuisine, the club will host a monthlong celebration featuring a stellar lineup of jazz veterans and rising stars. Chef/Owner Mark DeNinno expressed the club’s pride in its legacy, stating, “We’re truly honored to be the longest continuously operating jazz venue in Philadelphia. We hope area jazz lovers will come out and mark this milestone with us.”
The anniversary festivities include an impressive array of performances:
- Friday & Saturday, September 6 & 7: Trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III, with his sextet featuring vocalist Kate Kortum.
- Friday, September 13: Pianist Kevin Hays with his ensemble, 7th Sense.
- Saturday, September 14: Bassist Jon Michel and his All Star Quartet.
- Friday & Saturday, September 20 & 21: Pianist Joe Block’s tribute to “Kind of Blue.”
- Friday & Saturday, September 27 & 28: Vocalist Anaïs Reno and her All Star Quintet.
Adding to the celebration, DeNinno will revive some of the club’s most beloved dishes from the past three decades. Guests can look forward to delights such as Pan Seared Diver Scallops with sweet English pea purée and elderberry coulis, Bang Bang Mussels in Pernod jus, Duck Terrine with pistachios, sour cherries, and orange zest, and Blood Orange and Tarragon Crème Brûlée.
Tickets for the anniversary events are available now, with options including Dinner & Show packages featuring a three-course chef’s tasting menu, VIP, and General Admission. All tickets ensure premium seating. For those unable to attend in person, performances will be streamed live on Chris’ YouTube channel.
