WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County’s Department of Computing and Information Services (DCIS) has earned national recognition for its innovative use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. The National Association of Counties (NACo) awarded DCIS a 2024 Achievement Award for its GIS Productivity Tools and Applications project.

The project equips county staff with advanced GIS tools to boost productivity and cut costs across various government departments. These tools streamline operations, reduce inefficiencies, and eliminate unnecessary expenses, making county processes more effective.

Chester County also received accolades from NACo and The Center for Digital Government for maintaining its top-ten digital ranking among counties with populations between 500,000 and 999,999. The judges praised the county’s efforts to enhance digital services, foster innovation, and improve the overall citizen and government experience through technology. They highlighted DCIS’ focus on upskilling staff and collaborating with all county departments to tackle challenges with tech solutions.

In a joint statement, Chester County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe commended the DCIS team. “As part of their service to county residents and their fellow employees, staff in DCIS continually look at ways to increase productivity, enhance digital services and technology, and optimize taxpayer dollars,” they said. “Their use of tools and applications that track progress and performance, and their focus on ways that new technologies like AI and cybersecurity monitoring can innovate and improve services, deserve the recognition they have received. We congratulate them!”
