Vitable Raises $16M Series A to Expand Affordable Healthcare Access

Vitable Health

PHILADELPHIA, PAVitable announced it has secured $16 million in Series A funding led by Cherryrock Capital, with contributions from Citi Impact Fund, First Round Capital, Newark Venture Partners, Commerce Ventures, and Y Combinator. This latest round brings Vitable’s total venture capital raised since its 2020 inception to over $25 million.

The fresh capital will fuel Vitable’s expansion into new states beyond its current nine markets. The company aims to quickly extend its reach to over 40 states. Recent launches include Florida, Texas, and Ohio. Vitable will also enhance its Direct Primary Care plan and ACA compliance solutions to better serve self-insured employers.

Founded by Joseph Kitonga, Vitable was created to bridge the healthcare gap for working families who earn too much for Medicaid but too little to afford comprehensive health insurance. Kitonga, a former Thiel Fellow and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, drew inspiration from his family’s experience running a home healthcare agency. Many of their employees struggled with healthcare costs, often relying on emergency services for basic care.

Kitonga’s mission took shape after a study highlighted a 20-year life expectancy gap between two neighborhoods just five miles apart. At 21, he left a software engineering offer from Microsoft to build Vitable, aiming to provide affordable, high-quality care for hourly workers.

“31.9% of the American workforce, or 51.9 million workers, earns less than $15 per hour,” Kitonga said. “Many are stuck in a gap where they can’t get Medicaid and can’t afford traditional insurance. Vitable focuses on small businesses and hourly employees, offering tailored solutions to their needs. Our goal is to provide truly affordable preventive and primary care, along with free prescriptions and mental health coverage.”

Vitable’s subscription-based model costs employers just $1 a day. Employees and their dependents receive free in-home and virtual primary care visits, prescriptions, lab tests, mental health programs, and care navigation services via Vitable’s mobile app.

“Vitable has a significant opportunity to improve healthcare access for shift workers and small business employees,” said Ryan Alam, SVP, Principal, Citi Impact Fund. “We are excited to support the Vitable team in developing innovative solutions for low-income households.”

With this new funding, Vitable is poised to make affordable healthcare accessible to more Americans, addressing a critical need in the healthcare landscape.
