Bridge Replacement Project to Cause Traffic Delays in Lancaster County

traffic alert expect delays

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a bridge replacement project set to begin on Walnut Run Road (Route 2031) in Strasburg Township. The project will start with the closure of the bridge over Walnut Run between Deiter Road and Lime Valley Road (Route 2030) on Tuesday, July 16, weather permitting.

A detour will redirect traffic via Lime Valley Road, Route 741 (Miller Street), May Post Office Road (Route 2015), Route 372, and Route 222. Motorists should plan for extra travel time as significant backups and delays are expected.

The project includes replacing the box culvert, reconstructing the road approaches, installing new guiderails, and upgrading stormwater pipes. This initiative is part of a broader contract to replace three bridges in Lancaster County.

Work has been completed on the Route 741 (Strasburg Road) bridge over Eshelman Run in Paradise Township. Construction on the Route 2014 (Maple Shade Road) bridge over Coopers Run in Colerain Township is ongoing and slated for completion in August.

Doli Construction Corporation, based in Chalfont, PA, is the prime contractor for the $2,020,305 project. All work is expected to conclude by September 4, 2024.

PennDOT urges motorists to exercise caution and patience when traveling through the affected areas.
