PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced upcoming nighttime repairs and paving on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway), which will likely cause significant traffic delays.
From Monday, July 15, through Wednesday, July 17, single and double lane closures will occur on northbound U.S. 1 between Interstate 76 and Fox Street from 8:00 PM to 11:00 AM for bridge deck repairs. During the same period, southbound lanes will face similar closures from 6:00 PM to 5:30 AM.
Starting Thursday, July 18, at 6:00 PM and continuing until 5:30 AM on Monday, July 22, both northbound and southbound lanes will experience periodic double lane closures between I-76 and Fox Street. This work includes bridge deck repairs, paving, and line striping.
Motorists should plan for extra travel time due to expected backups and delays. All activities are weather dependent. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and patience during these periods.
The project aims to repair and extend the life of the Twin Bridges over the Schuylkill River and is part of PennDOT’s $100.6 million Wayne Junction Viaduct rehabilitation, initially completed in 2023.
