HORSHAM, PAGrupo Bimbo, the world’s largest bakery company, has released its 2023 annual report titled “Behind our Actions.” The report details the progress and aims of the company’s Sustainability Strategy for 2030 and 2050.

One of the key highlights is the company’s “Baked For Nature” initiative, which focuses on environmental regeneration, growth, circularity, and positive planetary impact. Notably, 93% of Grupo Bimbo’s global packaging is now made from recyclable materials. The company aims to have 100% of its packaging be recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable by 2025.

In its effort to become a net zero carbon company by 2050, Grupo Bimbo reported that 92% of its global electricity usage comes from renewable sources like solar and wind. The company has also expanded its fleet to include 2,693 electric delivery vehicles, bringing the total number of alternative fuel units to 6,198.

The company’s regenerative agriculture program met its 2023 harvest target, cultivating over 170,000 hectares of corn and wheat in Mexico, the United States, Canada, and France. Grupo Bimbo also trained more than 500 farmers in these regions. By 2050, the company plans for all key ingredients to come from lands cultivated under this sustainable method.

Under the “Baked For You” priority, Grupo Bimbo focuses on improving nutritional profiles, promoting plant-based diets, and supporting sustainable brands with purpose. Remarkably, 98% of its daily consumption products are now free of artificial colors and flavors. The acquisition of Natural Bakery in Canada has also strengthened its whole grain product offerings.

The “Baked For Life” priority aims to strengthen communities and support associates. In 2023, Grupo Bimbo implemented 263 community projects across 28 countries through its “Good Neighbor” program, positively impacting over 440,000 people.

CEO Rafael Pamias remarked, “During 2023, we made significant progress towards our 2030 and 2050 commitments. For example, we achieved 95% positive nutrition in our daily bread, pastries, and breakfast portfolio. Also, 27 of the 35 countries in which we operate already use renewable electricity. All of us who are part of Grupo Bimbo should be proud of these milestones published in the Annual Report, which endorse our purpose of Nourishing a better world.”

The report highlights Grupo Bimbo’s commitment to sustainability and community enrichment, positioning the company as a leader in both the bakery industry and corporate responsibility.
