CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced significant road closures in Chester County as part of a $14.9 million effort to upgrade stormwater management facilities across the Philadelphia region. This initiative will affect over 90 state highways in multiple counties.
From Monday, July 15, to Friday, July 26, Kaolin Road will be shut down 24/7 between Chandler Mill Road and Ewart Road in Kennett and New Garden townships. Motorists should use Ewart Road and Chandler Mill Road as detours during this period.
Additionally, Ellis Woods Road will face weekday closures from Monday, July 15, to Thursday, July 25, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The affected section lies between Bethel Church Road and Route 23 (Ridge Road) in East Vincent and East Coventry townships. Drivers will be directed via Bethel Church Road and Route 23 (Ridge Road).
Local access will remain available, but PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra time for travel near these work zones due to expected backups and delays. The construction timeline is weather-dependent.
Highway Materials, Inc., based in Flourtown, Montgomery County, serves as the general contractor for this project, which is funded entirely by state resources.
