Lane Closures on U.S. 422 Amid Major Reconstruction Project

Traffic, flagging

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced significant construction activities on U.S. 422 as part of an $83.6 million initiative to overhaul approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway, including bridge replacements, between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.

Motorists should prepare for a series of lane closures scheduled for early next week. On Monday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 2, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, westbound traffic will see lane restrictions between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard for road reconstruction, and between the Oaks and Collegeville exits for utility work. Additionally, eastbound lanes between Keim Street and Evergreen Road will be closed from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM for similar reconstruction efforts.

Travelers are advised to anticipate extra travel time due to expected backups and delays in these areas. The completion of all planned work is contingent upon favorable weather conditions.

This extensive project aims to enhance U.S. 422’s overall travel experience and safety by updating the roadway’s alignment, widening shoulders, improving curve radii, and increasing vertical clearance. It includes the replacement of a culvert at Sprogels Run and the renovation and widening of the bridge over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek. A new two-span bridge will also replace the existing structure over Porter Road.

PennDOT urges drivers to remain cautious and observe posted signage while navigating through the construction zones, ensuring both their safety and that of the workers on site.
