PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that bridge pavement repairs are scheduled next week on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia. This work is part of a $100.6 million project to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct over the SEPTA tracks and Nicetown neighborhood.
On Monday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 2, from 6:00 PM to 5:30 AM, there will be periodic single and double lane closures on southbound U.S. 1 between Fox Street and Interstate 76. During the same dates, from 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM, similar closures will affect the northbound lanes between Interstate 76 and Fox Street.
Motorists should allow extra travel time, as traffic backups and delays are expected in these areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent, so plans may change if conditions do not permit safe work. The purpose of these repairs is to ensure the long-term safety and stability of the viaduct, which is vital for both local commuters and the broader transportation network.
