MIDDLETOWN, PA — Officials from the Pennsylvania Lottery presented a commemorative check to Donna Osborne, a 75-year-old Lancaster County resident, who won $5 million from a MONOPOLY™ Own It All Scratch-Off ticket. The check presentation took place at Lottery Headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. Speedway on Oregon Pike in Leola, Lancaster County, which sold the winning ticket, will receive a $10,000 bonus.
Osborne’s win couldn’t have come at a better time, coinciding with her birthday and marking the end of her radiation treatment for breast cancer. Reflecting on the twist of fate, she shared that she decided to return home from the airport after multiple flight delays, leading her to purchase the ticket.
“I was at the airport with my daughter, waiting to fly to Florida. After several delays, I decided to go home while my daughter stayed. If I hadn’t left the airport, I wouldn’t have bought that ticket!” said Osborne. She scratched the ticket in the Speedway parking lot and was stunned by the result.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes! I went back into the store and asked the clerk to check it. When they confirmed it, I called my daughter, who didn’t believe me at first,” she added.
Osborne, a grandmother and great-grandmother, has been providing transportation for the Amish community for decades and plans to continue working. “I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I retired. I need to keep moving. I’ll invest some of the money, but I also plan to visit Alaska!”
Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne extended birthday wishes and congratulations to Osborne. “We celebrate Donna’s big win and her long-time support of the PA Lottery. It’s thanks to players like her that we can create millionaires and help seniors live better lives.”
