READING, PA — PharmaForce International (PFI) has published its annual competitive intelligence report on the commercial operations of leading Immunology sales and marketing organizations in the United States. The latest edition, released in November 2023, provides insights into how companies navigated the competitive landscape amid a surge in biosimilar approvals and launches.
The report covers companies with products in Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, and Respiratory areas. One of the key focus areas this year was the strategic responses to the new Immunology biosimilars introduced in 2023.
The market became highly competitive due to numerous new biosimilar approvals. PFI documented various strategies companies used to promote these biosimilars under pressure. Some firms employed contract sales forces to gauge the market before committing to long-term investments. Others chose not to deploy a sales force at all, relying instead on online pharmacies to distribute their biosimilars.
“These biosimilars do not have the assistance programs or managed care wins that branded products offer,” said Allison Keylor, Director of the U.S. Syndicated Business Unit at PFI. “Companies promoting the newly approved Immunology biosimilars had to get creative with their selling strategies in 2023.”
The report details many such competitive responses and strategies, highlighting the industry’s adaptation to a rapidly changing market. Besides the U.S. report, PFI also conducted the Immunology benchmarking study in Europe. The EU5 report was published in December 2023.
PFI plans to release the 2024 updates for both the U.S. and Europe Immunology reports in the fourth quarter of 2024. These updates will continue to provide valuable benchmarks and insights into the evolving strategies within the Immunology sector.
