PHILADELPHIA, PA — Franklin Towne Charter High School’s administration and Board of Trustees are frustrated with the Auditor General’s questionable and inaccurate remarks concerning a disputed and contested legal matter that has not yet been resolved.
The Auditor General’s (AG) report is by no means a ratification or endorsement of the factual findings or conclusions of the Charter Schools Office’s (CSO) investigation into alleged irregularities in Franklin Towne Charter High School’s (FTCHS) lottery process. Rather, the AG’s report simply recommends that the CSO should review a charter school’s lottery process as part of its annual review, instead of only at the time of charter renewal. Nevertheless, the AG’s and CSO’s press releases have intentionally mischaracterized and misrepresented the AG’s report to make it seem as though lottery manipulation at FTCHS did, in fact occur, which, again, FTCHS emphatically disputes and denies.
“Nowhere does the Auditor General’s report condemn Franklin Towne Charter High School,” FTCHS CEO Brianna O’Donnell said. “In light of the false conclusions drawn in the press release, we await the opportunity to review the findings of the investigation and provide additional evidence to refute the CSO claims against FTCHS. We are confident that a thorough examination of our school will demonstrate our commitment to fairness and equity.”
