CHESETR COUNTY, PA — The 2023 Toys for Tots season is coming for a close, with most sites in Chester and Southern Montgomery Counties accepting their last collections on Wednesday, Dec 6th.

“I would love to be able to accept collections longer, but we need to sort our donations this weekend to serve our applicants next weekend. Toys for Tots is fully run by volunteers, and there’s no other way to make the schedule work” said Jeffrey Smith, Coordinator for the local campaign

Toys for Tots is a program distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. It was founded in 1947 by Marine Corps reservist Major Bill Hendricks. While the Toys for Tots Foundation is responsible for the national campaign, many local campaigns are solely supported by volunteers

This year, the campaign is attempting to support over 16,000 children. “We could not meet the requests of our applicants without the support of the community. Toys for Tots is a volunteer run organization, and is dependent on community donations to assist those in need” Smith said
