SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Bridge repair and tree clearing operations will continue at night next week on Interstate 476 under a $63.7 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project to resurface, repair and improve nearly 17 miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps and bridges from Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to Interstate 95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
The work schedules and locations are as follows:
- Sunday, November 12, through Thursday, November 16, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on southbound I-476 between the Route 3 (Upper Darby/Broomall) and I-95 interchanges for bridge deck repair; and
- Sunday, November 12, through Thursday, November 16, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound I-476 between the I-95 and I-76 interchanges for tree clearing in sediment basins.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
PennDOT’s project aims to improve the condition of I-476 by overlaying travel lanes, repairing structures, addressing slope stabilization issues, and upgrading roadside elements. The goal is to extend the design life, enhance ride quality, and ensure safety for drivers.
H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Work on the entire project is expected to finish in late 2025.
