Wilmington Police Arrest 18-Year-Old on Multiple Charges Including Assault and Weapon Possession

WILMINGTON, DE — An 18-year-old man is in custody following an assault incident that led to a foot chase in Wilmington, Delaware. The Wilmington Police Department reported that officers responded to an assault call on the 1700 block of Lancaster Avenue around 9:12 p.m., on October 28.

The criminal complaint alleges that upon arrival, police encountered the victim who indicated that the assault had occurred in the area of 1300 West 7th Street. Officers proceeded to the location and attempted to engage Mekhi Johnson, who fled the scene on foot.

After a brief pursuit, Johnson was apprehended without incident. A search revealed a loaded 9mm handgun in his possession. The police have charged Johnson with several offenses including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, second-degree assault, aggravated menacing, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.

Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Johnson was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. He is being held on $25,100 cash-only bail.
