CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts presents Evita the Musical June 3 – 19, 2022 – the powerful rags-to-riches rise of Eva Peron, the First Lady of Argentina.

Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, Evita charts the young and ambitious Eva Peron’s meteoric rise to sainthood. The multi Tony-winning musical follows Eva on her journey from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to, as the wife of military leader-turned-president Juan Peron, the most powerful woman in Latin America, before her death from cancer at age 33.

The events of Evita are presented in song and commented on by the show’s narrator, Che. Well-known numbers from Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical masterpiece include “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Oh What a Circus,” “Buenos Aires” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall.”

“Evita is a Cinderella story about the astonishing life of a girl from the most mundane of backgrounds who became the most powerful woman that her country had ever seen,” comments Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts. “It’s a story about truth versus perceived-truth, public perception of political movements, and radical social change. Underneath it all though, it is also about the childhood damage that drives some people to great heights, for better or worse.”

Once again SALT Performing Arts’s creative and technical leadership pushes the boundaries of what is achievable in front of a live audience (community-theater or beyond). Audiences are led through the spectacle as a music video is filmed, produced, and unfolded before their eyes: a dissection of the double-edge sword that bleeding-edge media, film, and political celebrity exposed to the early 20th century.
