132 E Gay St, West Chester · (610) 453-1958

D’ascenzo’s started selling their gelato at farmers’ markets and mobile events in 2004. The demand became so great, and the lines so long, they opened a brick-and-mortar store in 2011. Working with a West Chester dairy farm, their ingredients are locally sourced and made in small, individual batches. If you’ve never tried D’Ascenzo’s handmade gelato, it is time to indulge!

6. Gemelli Dessert Café
gemelligelato.com
12 Market St, West Chester · (484) 557-8482

Gemelli in Italian means twins. While no twins are running it, the Gemelli Dessert Café does pair tradition and innovation and gelato and ice cream. Some of their dessert creations are almost too pretty to eat… almost! Their artisan chef, Vincenzo, was born and raised in Ferrara, Italy, and trained extensively to learn the art of crafting true Italian gelato.

7. Petrucci’s Ice Cream
petruccisicecream.com
472 Nutt Rd, Phoenixville · (610) 933-9390

Petrucci’s is an old-fashioned ice cream store, and you can’t go wrong there. The ice cream is delicious. They have gigantic banana splits, probably enough for two, but I won’t judge if you eat it yourself. In addition to 30 flavors of hand-dipped ice cream, their menu includes fresh daily homemade water ice, milkshakes, sundaes, frozen cappuccinos, smoothies and more.

8. The Creamery at the Farmhouse

119 W Lancaster Ave, Downingtown · (610) 269-0124

The only reason this isn’t higher on the list is the Farmhouse is known more for being an awesome coffee house than as an ice cream shop. However, they do make their own ice cream, and it is amazing. Their milkshakes are often named the best in Chester County and the  Western Suburbs.
