Owen J. Roberts School Board to Vote on New Superintendent Contract

POTTSTOWN, PA — The Owen J. Roberts School Board announced it has selected Dr. Wilbur Stout to be its next Superintendent of Schools. The Board will vote to approve a contract with Dr. Stout at its regularly scheduled voting meeting which will be held virtually, via ZOOM, on Monday, March 15, 2021, at 7:00 p.m.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome a Superintendent with Dr. Stout’s diverse experience and background,” said Leslie Proffitt, President of the Owen J. Roberts School District. “His extensive experience in school districts will serve him well here at Owen J. He brings building level, central office and assistant superintendent experience with him. In addition, his time as a guidance counselor will be a benefit to our students as we all recover from the pandemic.”

Dr. Stout is currently the Assistant Superintendent of State College Area School District in State College, PA. He was appointed to the post in July 2017. In addition, he served as the Director of Secondary Education at Cornwall-Lebanon School District, High School Principal at Hempfield Area High School, Assistant Principal at Centerville Middle School, and a Middle School Guidance Counselor in the Hempfield Area School District.

Dr. Stout will replace Dr. Susan Lloyd who is retiring in June. Dr. Stout will assume his role as Superintendent of Schools for the Owen J. Roberts School District on July 1, 2021.

Dr. Stout’s appointment will conclude a three-month process that began in December 2020.

The search efforts yielded a diverse pool of 25 applicants, consisting of superintendents, assistant superintendents, central office and building administrators.

Throughout the winter, the Board completed the screening of applicants, three rounds of rigorous interviews to determine the degree of fit between the stakeholders’ criteria, the District’s needs and the candidate’s professional experiences.

Of the 25 applicants, the Board selected 9 applicants for first-round screening interviews. At the conclusion of first-round interviews, the Board selected three candidates to advance to second-round interviews, from those three the Board selected Dr. Stout for a third, and final, round of interviews.

In preparation for selecting the candidates, the Board gathered stakeholder input from a series of staff, parent and community focus groups held in January and February, and an electronic survey.
