TREDYFFRIN TWP, PA —The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled plans for an extensive resurfacing operation on the eastbound 422 ramp to Swedesford Road in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County. This weekend project is part of a broader initiative to refurbish 37 miles of state highways within the county, ensuring safer and smoother travel for motorists.
Scheduled for Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21, the work will span from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day. During these hours, the eastbound 422 ramp leading to Swedesford Road will be closed from the Old Eagle School Road overpass to Swedesford Road itself. The closure is necessary for milling and paving operations, crucial steps in road surface restoration.
To accommodate this temporary inconvenience, PennDOT has outlined a detour for affected drivers. Motorists will be rerouted through the southbound U.S. 202 Interchange to the northbound Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) Interchange, then onto Valley Forge Road, Swedesford Road, and finally West Valley Road. Drivers planning to travel through this area are encouraged to budget additional time into their journeys to account for potential delays and increased traffic on alternate routes.
This weekend’s closure is contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Should inclement weather arise, the schedule may be adjusted accordingly.
The resurfacing work involves milling the existing roadway surface and applying new asphalt. This process not only repairs the current wear and tear but also aims to provide a significantly improved driving experience. Once completed, the newly paved roads will offer enhanced durability and comfort for daily commutes and long-distance travel alike.
The project, valued at $14.7 million, is being executed by Allan Meyers, LP, a contractor based in Worcester, Montgomery County. It is noteworthy that state funds bear the entire cost of this ambitious resurfacing project.
