PHILADELPHIA, PA — As part of the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct, a crucial infrastructure project valued at $100.6 million, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of nighttime lane closures on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia. The closures, which will allow for the installation of overhead signs, are a critical step toward the completion of the project that spans over the SEPTA tracks and through the Nicetown neighborhood.

Scheduled from Monday, April 15, to Thursday, April 18, these disruptions will impact both directions of U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway). Southbound lanes between Wyoming Avenue and Fox Street will experience periodic single lane closures from 6:00 PM to 5:30 AM the following morning. Concurrently, northbound traffic between Fox Street and Wyoming Avenue will also be subject to similar restrictions, starting each night at 7:00 PM and ending at 5:30 AM.

These temporary lane closures are essential for PennDOT’s contractors to carry out post-construction activities, often referred to as punch list tasks. These tasks are the final steps in ensuring that all aspects of the Wayne Junction Viaduct rehabilitation meet the project’s stringent quality and safety standards.

Motorists planning to travel through the affected sections of U.S. 1 during these times are advised to anticipate delays and consider alternative routes when possible.
