NEWTOWN, PA — In an inspiring blend of culinary innovation and compassionate activism, owners Ashni “Baba” Kumar and Priya Guru are set to reopen their beloved restaurant, Guru’s, as a vegetarian and vegan haven. Located at 203 North Sycamore Street, Newtown, PA, this limited engagement pop-up marks a new chapter for the establishment which has been closed since January.

The hiatus was not without purpose; the couple ventured to India on a noble three-year mission to adopt two young sisters, a dream that’s still navigating the complexities of bureaucracy. Now back in the U.S., while they await the completion of their adoption process, Baba and Priya are eager to reconnect with their community through what they know best — food.

Guru’s, once known for its eclectic menu drawing from various Indian states, will relaunch with an exclusively vegetarian and vegan menu, a decision deeply influenced by Priya’s time in India. “The ethical treatment of animals has always been important to me,” Priya shares. “Our new direction is a testament to our commitment to causing no harm to our animal friends.” The streamlined menu will exclude all meat and fish dishes, promising the same innovative flavors that earned the restaurant its acclaim.

In addition to serving up delightful plant-based dishes, the pop-up will support a cause close to the couple’s hearts. A portion of every sale will benefit Guru’s Guardian Angels, a nonprofit founded by the duo dedicated to rescuing and sheltering stray animals across the globe. This initiative reflects their profound dedication not only to culinary excellence but also to making a positive impact on the lives of animals in need.

While the dining room remains closed for now, guests can enjoy their takeout meals on the charming 50-seat outdoor patio or at the bar, offering a cozy ambiance to savor Guru’s signature dishes. Open from noon to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and extending to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Guru’s invites both long-time patrons and new friends to experience the joy of compassionate dining.

Since its inception in 2015, Guru’s Indian Cuisine has captivated food enthusiasts with its creative interpretations of traditional Indian dishes. As they step into this new venture, Baba and Priya not only aim to continue this legacy but also to enrich it with their profound message of kindness and care for all beings.

Join the reopening of Guru’s for a taste that feeds the soul and supports a noble cause, embodying the spirit of hospitality and humanity at its finest.
