LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — Next week, drivers traversing U.S. 422 in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, should anticipate significant traffic delays due to scheduled construction activities. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has outlined plans for an $83.6 million project aimed at reconstructing and improving a 2.1-mile stretch of the expressway, including bridge replacements between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.

The construction schedule includes a variety of activities that will impact traffic flow:

  • Westbound Lane Closures for ITS Installation: From Monday, April 29, through Thursday, May 2, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, westbound traffic between Route 724 and Route 100 will see lane closures to facilitate the installation of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
  • Eastbound Lane and Shoulder Closures for Roadway Construction: Starting Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, eastbound U.S. 422 will have periodic lane and shoulder closures between Keim Street and Evergreen Road.
  • Westbound Lane Closures for Roadway Construction: Likewise, the same period will see westbound lane closures from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard.
  • Lane Closure with Flagging on Sanatoga Road: Bridge construction will necessitate a lane closure with flagging on Sanatoga Road between Linfield Road and High Street, active from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Intermittent Traffic Stoppages for Controlled Blasting: Additionally, from Wednesday, May 1, through Friday, May 3, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, both directions of U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard will experience intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages and paces for controlled rock blasting essential for drainage construction.

PennDOT advises motorists to allocate extra time when traveling through these areas due to the anticipated backups and delays. These scheduled activities are critical for enhancing travel and safety on U.S. 422 by improving curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance. Notably, this project will also involve the replacement of a culvert at Sprogels Run and bridges over Porter Road and Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek, with all efforts weather dependent.
