A New Chapter in Education: West Chester Area School District Appoints Two Top Educational Leaders

WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Area School District (WCASD) unveiled the appointment of two accomplished figures in the world of education: Dr. James Conley and Mrs. Shante’ Knight. Their appointments come as part of WCASD’s steadfast commitment to uphold and further enhance educational excellence.

Dr. James Conley, a seasoned figure in secondary education with over 25 years of experience, will step into the role of Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. He previously served as Assistant Superintendent at Wallingford-Swarthmore School District and as Principal at Unionville-Chadds Ford High School. Dr. Conley’s stellar reputation for promoting academic performance and innovation will serve WCASD well, as he is set to work closely with middle and high school principals and athletic directors to drive educational excellence and student success.

Noting the significance of Dr. Conley’s appointment, Superintendent Dr. David Christopher said, “Welcoming Dr. Conley as our new Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education marks a milestone in our stride towards educational excellence. His significant experience at the middle and high school level will be instrumental in advancing our initiatives at the secondary education level. We eagerly look forward to the innovative ideas and fresh perspectives he brings to our team.”

Dr. Conley is expected to start his five-year contract on July 1, 2024, and the summer will see him actively engaging with staff and the community in preparation for a seamless transition into the new school year.

Mrs. Shante’ Knight, a transformative educational leader with over 24 years of experience, is set to take on the role of Director of Teaching and Learning and Equity. Mrs. Knight’s vast expertise encompasses school transformation and curriculum development. Her previous roles as the Director of Educator Leadership Development at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and as the Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction for Williamsburg James City County Schools in Virginia, have equipped her with a rigorous understanding of curriculum and equity issues.

Expressing excitement over Mrs. Knight’s appointment, School Board President Karen Fleming said, “Mrs. Shante’ Knight’s addition to our team, as the new Director of Teaching and Learning and Equity, is a significant step towards our mission of providing all students with a world-class education. Mrs. Knight is expected to start her role on or before July 1, 2024. She will work closely with district leadership to align with current curriculum initiatives and equity work, as the district charts its path forward.
